Concert: Munch portrays Dagny Juel
Saturday 18 January 2020
Experience exciting interpretations of Dagny Juel as poet and model!
We are approaching the end of the exhibition period for "Edvard Munch. In us are worlds".
Norwegian Dagny Juel (1867-1901) was a writer, bohemian and part of Munch's circle. She figured as a muse and model for several artists of her time. Dagny Juel was equally an artist in her own right. She is described as an original and daring writer, and was trained as a pianist. Juel lived a life filled with drama and poetry, until she was killed by a gunshot aged only 34, in Tbilisi, Georgia.
Directed by the Edvard Grieg Choir and Tyrone Landau, Juel's own poems are brought to life in this concert, through song and dramatization.
We will hear music by three Norwegian female composers, who illustrate four of Munch's paintings.
The composers are Borghild Holmsen (1865-1936), Mon Schjelderup (1870-1934) and Pauline Hall (1890-1969).
