The German composer Heinrich Schütz was – like the Danish Mogens Pedersøn – inspired by the prominent Italian composers Giovanni Gabrieli and Claudio Monteverdi. In the preface to his collection of madrigals Il quinto libero dei madrigali from 1605, Monteverdi proclaimed that the text should guide the musical progress: "Le parole, poi la musica". Both Pedersøn and Schütz were greatly inspired by this new approach, and Schütz also formed a personal friendship with Gabrieli.
Edvard Grieg Choir gives us a concert in which madrigals by Pedersøn and Schütz will take center stage.
