The international violin star Vilde Frang is finally back in Bergen to play Beethoven's violin concerto, one of the most famous and beloved works in music history.

Vilde Frang has had an adventurous development as a violinist since she was for the first time a soloist with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra in Henryk Wienawski's Polonaise Brilliante at De Unges Konsert in 1998. She now has a great international career, and it is a pleasure to have her back as soloist in Beethoven's violin concerto, one of the very largest in the repertoire.

The choral work Lux Aeterna was composed by the Hungarian-Austrian composer György Ligeti (1923-2006) in 1966 and is both mysterious, disturbing and peacefully beautiful. Film director Stanley Kubrick used the music in his 1968 film classic, 2001: A Space Odyssey. The text is taken from the Roman Catholic Requiem Mass.

A melancholic clarinet accompanied by a timpani rumble opens Jean Sibelius' first symphony, which was an immediate success. After the premiere in Helsinki in 1900, the work was immediately performed in Stockholm, Copenhagen, Berlin and Paris.
