Passio Olavi world premiere
Saturday 31 October 2015
Edvard Grieg Choir performs the world premiere of Tyrone Landau's Passio Olavi in Bergen Cathedral on 31 October 2015.
Olav, saint and king, was praised in Gregorian chant and kept alive in the accounts of the miracles he performed throughout Scandinavia. In this new work, old Gregorian chants in Latin are united, taken from manuscripts that were scattered and partially lost during the Reformation. New musical arrangements depict Olav's miracles. The texts for these were recorded in Bergen approx. 1200. We meet Latin and Old Norwegian, medieval song and choral music from our own time in a new musical presentation of the life of this important historical personality.
Schola Sanctae Sunnivae participates, both choirs conducted by Tyrone Landau.
