Elisabeth Teige, Norway's leading Wagnerian soprano, and Iain Paterson, famous British bass-baritone, in the leading roles of Senta and the Dutchman.

Few composers capture passion better than Wagner. His music flows through the soul, paints nature in all its beauty and brutality and it tells wonderful stories.
In The Flying Dutchman the battle is between good and evil, dream and reality. The Dutchman is condemned to sail the seven seas forever, and only a young woman's unreserved love can free him from the curse.

The opera has particular relevance for Norway: in 1839 Wagner boarded a ship in the Baltic Sea bound for London. In Skagerak, the ship was caught in a terrible storm and had to seek emergency harbor on the southern coast. His experiences from this journey, together with Heinrich Heine's story about the Flying Dutchman, form the basis of the opera.

In this new production from Bergen National Opera you can expect drama, depth and surprises. Director John Ramster and designer Bridget Kimak are known for their sensational productions that really pull us into the heart of the story.
