Bergen church autumn festival: Lobet den Herrn – Bach motets and Psalms of David
Thursday 24 September 2020
Edvard Grieg Kor presents a program with great contrasts: Three of Johann Sebastian Bach's most beloved motets stand side by side with a wide selection of choral music from the 19th century to the present day, most with texts from the Psalms of David. There will be music with prayers and praise, inspired by the festival's title BEDEHUS, and in addition you will hear the kinship and differences of the choral composers Bach, Mendelssohn, Penderecki, Nystedt and Parry.
The Norwegian vocal ensemble Edvard Grieg kor is the resident ensemble at Edvard Grieg's home, Troldhaugen. The choir's repertoire spans across genres, and the singers can often be heard together with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and as the core of the choir at Bergen National Opera's performances.
Through performances both in Norway and abroad, the choir has achieved status as a leading eight-part a cappella ensemble, and a whole series of works and arrangements have been dedicated to them, including by well-known composers such as Jonathan Rathbone and David Lang.
