American Line 1

America line

Thursday 19 January 2017

American and European choral music is on the program when Edvard Grieg Kor (pictured) and Trondheim Vocal Ensemble invite you to a concert with the human voice in focus.

In the same way that the America Line connected Europe and America, both continents have influenced each other musically. Knut Nystedt studied in the USA, and with none other than the composer Aaron Copland.

We also get to hear the Swiss composer Frank Martin's most famous choral work, his Mass from 1922. Three American composers are then on the program: Eric Whitacre is a very popular and frequently performed composer, Grammy winner and YouTube phenomenon after he launched his virtual choir a few years ago.

Irving Fine (1914-1962) has based his songs on love poems by the English Renaissance poet Ben Jonson, while Morten Lauridsen uses texts by Rainer Maria Rilke in his five songs.
