American Line 1

America line

Sunday 29 January 2017

In the same way that the America Line connected Europe and America, both continents have influenced each other musically. Among other things, Knut Nystedt studied in the USA with the composer Aaron Copland. We will also hear the Swiss composer Frank Martin's most famous choral work, his Mass from 1922.

Three American composers are also on the program: Eric Whitacre is a very popular and frequently performed composer, Grammy winner and YouTube phenomenon after he launched his virtual choir a few years ago.

Irving Fine has based his songs on love poems by the English Renaissance poet Ben Jonson, while Morten Lauridsen uses texts by Rainer Maria Rilke in his five songs.
